Trans History is OUR History: Remembering Our Mother, Saint Sylvia Rivera – July 2 1951 - February 19 2022
Today we Remember one of The Original Trancestor’s of our movement. Saint, Vanguard, Warrior, Friend & Co-Founder of STARR – Mother Sylvia Rivera. July 2 1951 - February 19 2022
In today's political climate, with the ongoing and aggressive erasure of trans identities, it is crucial to recognize that this is not new. The state and society has long worked to erase our history, well before the current administration.
In honor of Saint Sylvia’s life and legacy, let us remember that we are not without history. We are not without leaders doing work. Now more than ever we must remember, learn, and share our history—because it is ours to tell, ours

STARR: The Strategic Trans Alliance for Radical Reform
OUR MISSION: STARR is dedicated to creating a safe, more equitable society for Transgender and Gender Non Conforming individuals, especially those who also identify as Black, Indigenous, and or People Of Color. Through advocacy, litigation and community empowerment we strive to abolish and reform the institutions and belief systems which have harmed these communities historically, including but not limited to: ableism, ageism, cisgender-supremacy, white-supremacy/racism; systemic poverty, sexism, and economic disenfranchisement.

The Sylvia Rivera Law Project - A Proud foundation of lies, grift and exploitation.
We can’t fight revisionist history and erasure from the MAGA GOP if we won’t address it within the TLGBQ+ community, here in our own backyard. It’s important for our young people to learn that the truth matters. This is especially the case when it comes to those we choose to uplift as leaders.

This Just In: THE MARSHA AND SYLVIA PLAN
“This report and the accompanying legislation has the potential to set a new gold standard in terms of TLGBQ+ human rights in major cities across the U.S.
STARR extends our heartfelt gratitude to members of the Caucus for their tireless work in crafting such a thoughtful, groundbreaking report, just in time for Pride.
New York City has been the unofficial home of the global TLGBQ+ community for over a century. People of all ages and backgrounds have traveled here from every corner of the globe seeking the promise of safety, sanctuary and a chance to fulfill their full potential as humans.
We join the caucus in their efforts urging state and federal agencies to protect critical Trans and Ballroom history currently threatened by ongoing development, by participating in renewed inventory of all sites and districts in NYC eligible to be listed on the national register of historic places.
We are equally thrilled to find additional protections for Trans youth, TGNC folk experiencing poverty and homelessness, as well as first in the nation protections for sex workers.
This report is exactly what we need right now.
Well done!
